Harvard/Porter Square

  • Felipe's Taqueria – not the best burrito in the square, but an absolute necessity at 2am when nothing else is open.
  • Anna's Taqueria – the “best bang for your buck” in all of Boston , according to Zagat, this chain delivers a pretty great burrito for a great price (n.b. try the carnitas).
  • Boca Grande – great Mexican place up towards Porter Square . A more extensive menu than the other burrito shops making it possible to eat here every meal every day.
  • Border Cafe – the always crowded tex-mex mainstay with some of the cheapest food you will find and great margaritas and chips. Watch out for the hour-long waits on Fridays and Saturdays.
  • Pinocchio's Pizza – huge Sicilian slices make this pizza place almost a must-visit. Also the perfect post-bar option (were it not for the lines out the door).
  • Crazy Dough's – another Harvard Square pizza place (this one's in the garage), cheap beer and creative slices create a quick, cheap meal if you're in the area.
  • Cafe of India – great Indian food without the wait of Bombay club and probably the best Indian lunch buffet in the square.
  • Bombay Club – hovering right above the staple, this place woos you from the minute you get into the square. Good Indian food at reasonable prices.
  • Z-Square – a new home-style café that just opened up in Harvard square that has been getting good reviews and serves a limited menu till 2am .
  • Algiers Coffee Shop – it's easy to miss this middle-eastern coffee house located above Casablanca in the Brattle, but it's a great place to relax and have some food and coffee.
  • Casablanca – located beneath the Brattle Theater, the huge Casablanca mural isn't the only reason to come to this French take on Middle-Eastern food.
  • Cambridge Common – Zagat calls this a “Harvard Law dining room” and it probably is, but with 24 rotating taps of beer and unbelievably cheap burgers only 2 blocks away, how can you blame us?
  • Finale Desserts – dessert dessert dessert. It isn't cheap (on calories or wallet), but it is absolutely some of the best dessert you will ever have. N.B. they have a different take-out menu that is very reasonably priced.
  • Fire and Ice – buffet that lets you bring bowls filled with anything you could possibly want up to the big grill to have it cooked just for you. Also, Monday night is college night, so it is only $9.95 with your id!
  • Grendel's Den – go during the week and buy a drink and you can get their entire menu half off. A great deal on basic pub fare.
  • Hi-Rise Bread Company – maybe the best sandwiches in the square, although a bit pricey.
  • Legal Sea Foods – Famed New England seafood chain, noted for serving its clam chowder at the last 7 presidential inaugurations.
  • Bartley's Burger Cottage – it's been the top-rated burger joint in Boston for the last 35 years. N.B. they only take cash and they don't have restrooms!

  • 9 Tastes – standard Thai fare that's usually a bit less crowded then neighboring Spice.
  • Spice Thai Cuisine – the always-packed Thai mainstay in the square.
  • Penang – when you're bored of Thai food, check out this Malaysian chain serving a whole bunch of stuff you've probably never heard of.
  • Changsho – maybe the only edible Chinese food around, although it certainly isn't cheap. They also have a great lunch buffet.
  • Christopher's – we could just call it the Cambridge Common of Porter Square, but some people tend think it's a bit better.
  • Elephant Walk – it may sound weird, but this French/Cambodian restaurant is very different and very good.
  • West Side Lounge – smaller and more intimate than Temple Bar, this is a great place to meet for a drink or a bite.
  • Temple Bar – it's not cheap, but it's not a bad option for some decent food if you're feeling upscale and too lazy to go anywhere further away.

Central/Inman Square and Somerville

  • East Coast Grill – Boston favorite seafood and barbecue restaurant. Check out their “Hell Nights” if you love spicy food (but watch out!).
  • Dali – romantic tapas bar that does live up to the hype (and is worth the cost).
  • Punjabi Dhaba – an always packed fast-food style Indian place that is cheap and delicious, if you don't mind the atmosphere.
  • Midwest Grill – a Brazilian Churrascaria, which, for those who don't know, is an all-you-can-eat ordeal of ten different meats and side dishes.
  • Central Kitchen – upscale restaurant that has an interesting menu and is always good.
  • Koreana – as the name suggests, this is a Korean restaurant that serves traditional Korean food, Korean bbq, and sushi.

  • Rendezvous – just opened upscale restaurant that has a special deal on Sundays: $35 3 course price fix dinner.

Brookline/Allston

  • Rami's – Israeli-style fast food place with possibly the best falafel in the city.
  • Zaftigs – like a Jewish delicatessen, they have an amazing brunch menu. But watch out, the wait can be hours long.
  • Sunset Grill & Tap – more known for having more beers on tap than any restaurant on the East Coast, they also have an amazingly cheap food menu. Try the nachos!
  • Taam China – kosher Chinese restaurant.
  • Khao Sarn – if you don't mind the trip to get there, this Thai is arguably the best around.
