Friedman Kaplan Announces 2010 Pre-Clerkship Program for 3Ls

Posted By Administration, Friday, October 23, 2009
Friedman Kaplan Seiler & Adelman LLP recently announced a special summer program for 3Ls pursuing clerkships for the 2010-2011 term. More information is provided below in a letter from Friedman Kaplan to Harvard 3Ls:

Dear Harvard Law School 3L:

If you are pursuing a judicial clerkship for the 2010-11 term, we invite you to apply for a unique summer program at Friedman Kaplan Seiler & Adelman LLP.  For six weeks during the summer of 2010, a few law school graduates who are starting clerkships in the fall of 2010 will join us as “Pre-Clerks.”  This pre-clerkship summer program will combine our emphasis on academic excellence with our proven track record of providing junior attorneys with unparalleled hands-on experience.

We are a 64-lawyer firm offering associates unique opportunities to gain immediate, substantive responsibility working on sophisticated and exciting litigation, corporate, and restructuring and insolvency matters.  Whether successfully litigating for Wachovia the application of the Emergency Economic Stabilization Act to its dispute with Citigroup over the Wells Fargo merger, negotiating a private equity investment in China, interviewing witnesses as part of an internal investigation at a publicly traded company, or arguing a pro bono asylum application, associates play essential roles on leanly-staffed teams, working one-on-one with partners, and earning compensation competitive with that of larger firms.  Perhaps most telling, many highly qualified laterals, after a few years at the nation’s most prestigious larger firms, apply to us.

Since the firm’s inception, we have highly prized the clerkship experience:  our lawyers have served as clerks for judges on the Second, Third, Fifth, and Sixth Circuit Courts of Appeal, and the District Courts for the Southern and Eastern Districts of New York, the District of New Jersey, the Eastern District of Pennsylvania, the District of Massachusetts, and the Eastern District of Virginia.

As a result, we designed our 2010 summer program especially for Pre-Clerks, whose work and involvement in our matters will be intensive but will also be flexible enough to accommodate evening bar review courses.  Similarly, our social events will be tailored to allow Pre-Clerks to get to know our attorneys in more relaxed settings while avoiding conflicts with evening bar review.  And Pre-Clerks will participate in workshops in which our attorneys who have clerked will teach clerkship-specific skills and work through simulated bench memo and opinion writing exercises, giving our Pre-Clerks a head start on the steep clerkship learning curve.

While you may be interviewing on campus for traditional summer programs, we invite you to submit your résumé and transcript now to our Recruitment Coordinator, Kimberly Baez, at kbaez@fklaw.com.  Learn more about our attorneys, practice, and culture at www.fklaw.com, or contact one of us at jorsini@fklaw.com or jsmith@fklaw.com with questions about the firm or the summer program.

Sincerely,

John N. Orsini '02
